Finally as part of our Tehidy Creative Residency c Finally as part of our Tehidy Creative Residency celebrations we held a day of 'radical reimaging's for a better future'. The birth of ‘kernowfuturism’ is a mix of science fiction, history and fantasy, with thanks to black artists like ‘Sun Ra’ we can explore the complexities of identity using popular cinematic tropes. At this scratch event we had DJ Sounds Like Cornwall playing original Cornish vinyl, Poet @lucyabeckley collecting our words of hope on a Clootie tree and artist @rosijolly creating Kernowfuturistic costumes from scrap with all ages. I became a futuristic Bal Maiden, serving tea treats and scones and the day finished with an Afro-Caribbean feast served by Coco Bean Cornwall. @cocobeancornwall Prizes for the best costumes and general tomfoolery. This emerging ideology explores Cornish history and its links to other cultures through trade and migration. I hope to create a new project from this first event that explores the future ambitions of Cornwall and asks what ideologies we have in common with others. In a time of political unrest around these isles, there is a need for Kernow to lead and celebrate difference.

Penultimate post about the residency, you can see Penultimate post about the residency, you can see more about it on my blog. ruthpurdy.co.uk Costumes and Cordage Endeavouring to keep the research and development 'made from Tehidy', I made masks and costumes from leaves and nettles. The Penlee Family project had a go too. Each stage of making cordage is particularly satisfying and when were all done with this kind of life I will happily spend my days bashing nettles and twisting them up to make garments.
Tehidy creative residency outcome- Making a came Tehidy creative residency outcome- Making a camera obscura, and drawing with charcoal made at Tehidy in the camera obscura. Making ink from Tehidy oak trees and again drawing. All the drawings were based on conversations with communities about seeing, looking for and capturing faces in the woods. A popular pastime with many it seems. The camera obscura developed an ongoing dialogue with visitors about the links between drawing and photography. More at my blog ruthpurdy.co.uk
